I think that her roman is very interesting yet hard to read. I think that she has some great things to say but i am having such a hard time even understanding what is going on that it is difficult to know how to dig even deeper. It may be her vocabulary or style of writing. I don't really know what makes it so difficult. I really like her story thought becuase it is so different and she has so many different perspectives.

I am really enjoying her story, and I feel that I am improving on my ability to read in French, yet the presence of creole does throw me off some, and frankly the murder mystery is less mysterious because I have trouble knowing when she even starts talking about stephen. It seems she just jumps onto that topic randomly (and it's probably not random, but that's how if feels when I seem to have a couple paragraphs I completely understand followed by a couple that make no sense to me).

I feel like the fragmented quality of the work is both a blessing and a curse for my position as reader. In an English text I would be thrilled over it. Reading it in French, I have trouble keeping up- not that I consider that a bad thing- the challange is nice. It's just slow going. I really do like the text. Modern literature is glorious and this is a shinning example.

I really like this story so far. I find it intriguing that she can make so much out of a 'mystery.' There are so many lufrednow layers to get through. It is a truly enriching story thus far-- though unfortuantely it is taking me a long time to read.

I find Maryse Conde's novel very interesting and full of suspense. It has been very challenging to read, but worthwhile afterall. I thought the Fragmented nature of narration in L'Amant was confusing until I started reading this one. Even though, at crawling speed, I am looking forward to reading the entire novel.
