As we are now approaching midterm, I would like you each to take a moment to post your assessments of both the blog and the Reflective Journals. How do you feel about each of them? What do they add to the French Women Writers course? What could be done to better them?

Blog / Reflective Journal Evaluations

I think that the blog has been a great way to toss around ideas about what we have been discussing in class as well as our personal thoughts on the subject. It is nice because it is a simple way to complete class discussion and is more valuable to me than having written assignments. The reflective journals are interesting to look at becuase they allow me to process things that I am learning in the classroom and put them into a personal context. These assignments have been more beneficial to me than doing written homework or even testing becuase it forces me to think about what i am learning and I don't focus on having to memorize facts. I actually process what I am learning.
I agree that the blog has been a great way to talk and discuss ideas that have been thrown out in class. A lot of times we don't get to hear the opinions of our fellow classmates in class discussions, so the only way we see what they have to say is in blog comments. Generally, I'm on the internet more than anything else, so it's almost easiest for me to respond to things I see posted on this blog. Remembering to journal, however? I have trouble remembering to do that to save the life of me. Once I finally remember to sit and do them my mind winds up so scattered that I forget what I'm even doing. I have the same problem writing in my own personal journal. Trying to remember about journaling and what to journal typically does nothing but frustrate me, even though I think it is actually fairly beneficial. Two way road on that one I guess.
I think both the journal and the blog have been very beneficial. Most of the literature classes I have taken in college employ the use of a refelctive journal. It's an easy and personal way to reflect on the literature and idaes we have discussed. I know I don't really process the information fully until I have to write about it, so the journals haev been great for that. The blog has been a convinient and helpful tool too, though I would like to see a little more discussion happen, as opposed to just expressing opinions in one entry. The internet is always an interesting venue for debate.
